About
DESCRIPTION: Legal advocacy requires mastery of core skills, and lessons in persuasion, preparation, and courtroom strategy can be found in both criminal and civil litigation. This CLE examines the fundamental principles of effective advocacy through the lens of an attorney who has been both a criminal prosecutor and a civil litigator. The program also provides advice to attorneys who may wish to change the focus of their practice between criminal and civil litigation. The program explores how the fast-paced nature of criminal proceedings sharpens case theme development and courtroom instincts, while the slower, more deliberate pace of civil litigation demands strategic long-term planning and early decisions about case themes. Attendees will learn about maintaining a narrative during motions practice and discussion with opposing counsel, as well as how to adapt when unexpected facts emerge. The program also covers practical courtroom presentation skills, including how to conduct yourself in voir dire, handling difficult witness preparation questions, deliver effective opening and closing statements that resonate with judges and juries, as well as negotiation skills. Real-world examples and practical strategies that attorneys can immediately apply in their own cases are used throughout the presentation. Whether you practice criminal law, civil litigation, or both, this program offers insights into the core advocacy skills that make attorneys effective in the courtroom. Accreditation pending. Check your Bar website or our list: https://www.clecast.net/accreditation. You will watch a video, be provided materials, and then fill out a certificate of completion should your state require that. Access to this CLE is available for 365 days following your purchase.
