About
DESCRIPTION: Professionalism is more than simply following the rules of ethics—it is the foundation of how lawyers build trust with clients, colleagues, and the public. In this CLE, Judge Malik Summer explores what professionalism means in practice, why it matters for attorneys today, and how civility and integrity directly affect both client outcomes and the broader perception of the legal system. The program examines key elements of professionalism, including: • Competence: delivering high-quality, informed representation. • Integrity: doing what is right, even when it is difficult. • Civility: engaging respectfully with opposing counsel, clients, judges, and staff. • Accountability: recognizing mistakes and taking responsibility. • Commitment to justice and the public good: understanding the lawyer’s role in advancing trust in the legal system. Judge Summer draws on real-world examples from the bench and bar to illustrate how professionalism (or the lack of it) can impact litigation, client relationships, and attorney reputation. The CLE also addresses common challenges, such as client pressure, adversarial culture, burnout, and communication pitfalls. Practical strategies for maintaining professionalism in difficult situations are given, as well. By the end of this program, attorneys will be equipped with tools to strengthen civility, model integrity, and navigate their careers with the kind of professionalism that enhances trust, reduces conflict, and ensures meaningful advocacy for clients. You will watch a video, be provided materials, and then fill out a certificate of completion should your state require that. Check your Bar website or our list: https://www.clecast.net/accreditation. Access to this CLE is available for 365 days following your purchase.
