About
DESCRIPTION: This CLE teaches lawyers how to harness the power of narrative to win in the courtroom. Drawing on principles from theater and trial practice, the course reframes the trial lawyer's role as writer, director, and actor: someone who controls the narrative rather than reacting to the opposing side's script. DeBlis covers the mechanics of effective courtroom storytelling, including how to develop a theory of the case, build themes that tap into universal human experience, deploy sensory detail to make facts visceral rather than abstract, and structure an opening statement that predisposes the jury before a single witness takes the stand. The course also addresses the psychology of jury persuasion, including the primacy effect and the documented relationship between opening statements and verdicts, as well as the role of authenticity, credibility, and physical presence in building jury connection. Practical and accessible, this session is valuable to litigators at any stage of their career. For accreditation information, check your Bar website or our list: https://www.clecast.net/accreditation. You will watch a video, be provided materials, and then fill out a certificate of completion should your state require that. Access to this CLE is available for 365 days following your purchase.
