Check your Bar website or our list: https://www.clecast.net/materials The right to vote is essential to an American democracy. Laws around who can go to the ballot box, how voting can be set up, and protections against discrimination are important to understanding how elections are protected today. In this CLE, we will discuss the history of election and voting law in the United States, including voting map redistricting, sometimes called gerrymandering, and the Voting Rights Act. We will also touch on voting rights for felons and ID requirements to vote. The last portion of the CLE will discuss ways that lawyers can get involved with election integrity efforts, whether using their legal skills or showing up to monitor elections. Through information about what our laws have been and what they are now, attorneys will be equipped to assist in legal actions in election law and discuss the issues with legislators and their community. The following cases are part of the presentation: Smith v. Allwright Harper v. Virginia State Board of Elections Gomillion v Lightfoot Rucho v Common Cause Chiafalo v. Washington Moore v.
