Using Psychological Evaluations Strategically in Immigration Law

- 1 min read
Psychological evaluations can be a powerful tool in immigration law. In this CLE, Oregon immigration attorney Alison Ecker and Licensed Clinical Social Worker Britt Urban Axness explore how and when evaluations add genuine value to a case, and when they may do little to change the outcome.
Through real-world examples and recent research, the program examines how evaluations are weighed by immigration judges and USCIS, as well as what factors make reports persuasive. Attorneys will learn how to identify the right cases for an evaluation, collaborate effectively with evaluators, and integrate trauma-informed practices that strengthen client trust and improve case presentation. The course also explores how evaluators gather and present information, giving attorneys a clear understanding of what to expect from an objective, ethical evaluation.
In today’s immigration landscape, understanding the role of psychological evidence is critical. Properly conducted evaluations can support asylum, U-visa, T-visa, and other cases.
